How to choose the best Nespresso®-compatible pods
Nespresso®-compatible pods let you keep your machine but pay a fraction of the price of the original brand. The catch is that quality varies wildly. Here's how to choose pods that actually taste great.
1. Match the intensity to your taste
Intensity (usually 1–10) tells you how bold and full-bodied the shot is — not how much caffeine. If you like a smooth, mild cup, look for lower numbers; if you want a strong, punchy espresso, go high. Torrié pods are clearly rated so you can pick with confidence across the Nespresso®-compatible range.
2. Choose your material: aluminium or compostable
- Aluminium pods deliver a rich, consistent shot and are recyclable when handled properly.
- Home-compostable pods break down in a home compost bin — the greener option. See the home-compostable range.
3. Look at where and how they're roasted
Cheap compatible pods are often stale or made from low-grade coffee. The best are roasted properly, from beans selected at origin. Torrié roasts in Portugal — a country that lives for coffee — which is why the flavour holds up against the big brands at a much lower price.
4. Check compatibility
Most compatible pods fit Nespresso® OriginalLine machines (not the Vertuo system). If you're unsure which machine you have, our which machine guide helps.
5. Buy in a way that saves money
A subscription is almost always cheaper than buying pack by pack, and you never run out. Build a Nespresso® box — mix any flavours — and save up to 30% with free UK delivery, skip or cancel anytime.
